Gluten Free Salt Lake City: Restaurants & Bakeries for Celiacs (2026)

Salt Lake City is a better city for celiacs than its size suggests. It has four places with 100% gluten-free kitchens: a full-service restaurant, a café in a 130-year-old church, and two dedicated bakeries. On top of that, several shared kitchens run dedicated fryers and separate prep areas for gluten-free orders.

Here’s where to eat, which bakeries are fully gluten free, and what to ask at the rest.

Fully gluten-free restaurants and cafés

Zest Kitchen & Bar

275 S 200 W, downtown. Zest has been 100% gluten free since it opened in 2012, and the National Celiac Association lists it in its directory. The menu is plant-based, with bowls, salads, and small plates, and the cocktail bar is one of the best downtown.

One detail worth knowing: the owner says there is no gluten in the kitchen, but the bar does serve regular beer. Zest also carries gluten-free bottled beer.

Hallowed Grounds Cafe & Gifts

370 S 300 E, downtown. The founder has celiac disease, and the café says all of its food is 100% gluten free. It’s in a 130-year-old church, and the menu covers breakfast sandwiches, avocado toast, bread, and desserts, with coffee from local roasters. It’s also dog friendly.

Gluten-free bakeries in Salt Lake City

Avenue Bakery on Fourth

376 E 4th Ave, the Avenues. A dedicated gluten-free bakery that also works as a small market. Expect cinnamon rolls, lemon bars, muffin tops, sandwich bread, cakes, and pies, plus soup, salads, and sandwiches if you want lunch. The bakery’s site lists hours as Monday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Good Food Gluten Free Bakery

423 W 800 S, Granary District. A dedicated gluten-free commercial kitchen with a small grab-and-go storefront and no seating. The scones get the most praise. Go early, since popular items sell out.

Shared kitchens with good celiac protocols

These kitchens also handle gluten, so always mention celiac disease when you order.

Tips for eating gluten free in Salt Lake City

Ask about the fryer. In a shared kitchen, the fryer is where most cross-contact happens. A dedicated fryer is the first thing to confirm.

Check hours before you go. The smaller gluten-free spots can keep short or changing hours, and listings don’t always agree. Check the restaurant’s own site or call.

Stock up for the mountains. If you’re heading to Park City or the ski resorts, buy bread and snacks at the dedicated bakeries first. GF Scanner can check packaged food at the grocery store.
