Gluten Free Bakery Minneapolis: Dedicated GF Bakeries in the Twin Cities (2026)

Minneapolis has some of the best gluten-free baking in the Midwest, and you don’t have to settle for a single sad muffin in a shared case. The Twin Cities have several bakeries where the whole kitchen is gluten free, including one run by people with celiac disease.

Here are the dedicated gluten-free bakeries in Minneapolis, what each one does best, when they’re open, and where to find good gluten-free bread to take home.

Dedicated gluten-free bakeries in Minneapolis

Sift Gluten Free

4557 Bloomington Ave, South Minneapolis. Sift is a dedicated gluten-free and peanut-free bakery, and it’s best known for doughnuts. Eater has called it the Twin Cities’ go-to spot for gluten-free doughnuts. Meet Minneapolis highlights the cinnamon rolls and the double chocolate doughnut. There are also cookies, scones, muffins, decorated cakes, and some vegan options.

Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Closed Mondays.

Atuvava

3800 S 28th Ave, South Minneapolis. Atuvava is a small family bakery, and it’s the one to know if you’re very sensitive. In the bakery’s own words, it’s “run by celiacs” and the kitchen is “dedicated gluten-free and celiac-safe.” It focuses on rustic breads and baked goods made in small batches.

Hours: Wednesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. It’s closed Sunday through Tuesday and sometimes runs special hours, so check the website before you go.

Hold the Wheat

4050 Brookside Ave, St. Louis Park. A gluten-free bakery and café just west of Minneapolis, with pastries, an espresso bar, and something most bakeries don’t have: a gluten-free takeout dinner service, Tuesday to Saturday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Hours: Opens at 7 a.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. on weekends. Closes at 2 p.m. on Sundays and Mondays.

Gluten-free bread to take home

Heaven is a locally made, European-style gluten-free sourdough baked in a dedicated facility, with no yeast, dairy, soy, or eggs. You don’t buy it at a storefront. It’s sold at Brim, Hold the Wheat, the Wedge Co-op, Eastside Co-op, Mississippi Market, and Lakewinds, and it ships nationwide. Check Heaven’s stockist list before you go.

Brim, the fully gluten-free café near Bde Maka Ska, is a good place to pick up a loaf and eat breakfast while you’re there. See our Minneapolis restaurant guide for more.

Custom cakes and special orders

Hark Bakery is a vegan and gluten-free bakery that works by order only. It makes wedding cakes, event desserts, and custom orders, with pickup by appointment in Plymouth. It’s the one to call for a birthday or wedding cake when you need to avoid gluten and other allergens too.

Shared bakeries with gluten-free options

These bakeries also bake with wheat, so they aren’t celiac-safe by default:

Closed: don’t make the drive

BitterSweet Gluten Free Bakery in Eagan closed permanently in August 2022, when the owner retired. Some 2026 roundups still list it, but it is not open.

Tips for gluten-free bakeries in Minneapolis

Go early. Small bakeries make limited batches, and doughnuts and cinnamon rolls sell out, especially on weekends.

Check hours online. Atuvava is open four days a week, and several bakeries close by mid-afternoon.

“Gluten-free option” is not “gluten-free bakery.” A gluten-free cupcake from a shared kitchen carries flour-dust risk. If you have celiac disease, start with the dedicated bakeries above.
