A tasting menu is the hardest meal to eat with celiac disease. You don’t choose the dishes, there are a dozen of them, and bread, sauces, and fried garnishes show up everywhere. But at the top of the restaurant world, that’s starting to change. Some Michelin-starred kitchens can now make an entire tasting menu gluten free, and one starred restaurant has no gluten in the building at all.
Here are the Michelin-starred restaurants celiac diners and gluten-free guides recommend, what each one actually offers, and how to book so the kitchen is ready for you.

The only 100% gluten-free Michelin-starred restaurant
La Fenière (Cadenet, Provence, France)
One Michelin star. La Fenière is the world’s only fully gluten-free restaurant with a Michelin star. It was founded by chef Reine Sammut, who earned the restaurant’s star in 1995. Her daughter, chef Nadia Sammut, was diagnosed with celiac disease in 2009, and by 2016 the family had converted the entire menu to gluten free. The Michelin inspectors approved the new menu, and the restaurant kept its star.
Today Nadia runs the kitchen. According to the MICHELIN Guide, gluten, refined white sugar, and milk have been removed from the kitchen entirely, and the restaurant mills its own gluten-free flours in-house. The tasting menu focuses on vegetables and the cooking of Provence. It’s in the Luberon, about an hour from Avignon and Aix-en-Provence, and there’s an inn on site, so you can stay the night.
If you’re celiac and want one bucket-list meal where you don’t have to ask a single question, this is it.
Michelin-starred restaurants in the US
Oriole (Chicago)
Two Michelin stars. Oriole is a favorite with celiac diners because the kitchen makes its own gluten-free breads, pasta, and desserts. That means you get the same menu as everyone else at the table, not a stripped-down version. Chef Noah Sandoval previously ran Senza, a gluten-free restaurant in Chicago, so the kitchen’s know-how runs deep.
Kasama (Chicago)
Two Michelin stars. Kasama, the Filipino restaurant from Tim Flores and Genie Kwon, was raised from one star to two in the 2025 guide. Celiac diners report that when they noted celiac disease on the reservation, the restaurant contacted them ahead of time, and that most of the tasting menu was naturally gluten free with careful swaps for the rest.
One caution: this applies to the dinner tasting menu. Celiac reviewers say Kasama’s daytime café is much harder, with very few items that can be made without cross-contact.
State Bird Provisions (San Francisco)
One Michelin star. State Bird serves small plates from dim sum-style carts, which sounds like a nightmare for celiacs. In practice, diners report that the staff mark what’s gluten free and tell you at each cart what you can and can’t have. The restaurant also offers half orders, since you often can’t share plates. Its signature fried quail has been specially made gluten free for celiac guests.
Heritage (Long Beach, California)
One Michelin star. Heritage was the first restaurant in Long Beach to earn a Michelin star, in 2023. It serves only a tasting menu, and celiac diners report that all of it can be made gluten free if you tell the restaurant at least 48 hours in advance.
The Wolf’s Tailor (Denver)
Two Michelin stars. In 2025 The Wolf’s Tailor became the first restaurant in Colorado to earn two stars. Many celiac diners report that the kitchen provided a substitute for every dish on the tasting menu. But reports are mixed, and at least one celiac reviewer got sick despite telling the restaurant in advance. If you’re very sensitive, talk to them in detail before booking.

Alcalde (Guadalajara, Mexico)
One Michelin star. Chef Francisco “Paco” Ruano’s restaurant serves a seasonal tasting menu built on Jalisco ingredients, and diners report that the kitchen can make the full tasting menu gluten free. Mexican cooking leans on corn, which helps. Mention your allergy when you reserve.

Claro (Brooklyn, New York)
Claro, chef TJ Steele’s Oaxacan restaurant in Gowanus, held a Michelin star from 2019 to 2023. It doesn’t have one now, but it’s still worth knowing about: the entire restaurant is gluten free, from the heirloom corn tortillas to the moles, and the cheeses and sausages are made in-house. How to book a gluten-free tasting menu
Say “celiac,” not just “gluten free.” Many kitchens treat “gluten free” as a preference. “Celiac disease” tells them cross-contact matters.
Put it in the reservation and call. Use the notes field on Resy, Tock, or OpenTable, then call or email to confirm. Most kitchens need 48 hours or more to plan substitutions, and some reach out to you first.
Ask the specific questions. Is there a gluten-free bread service? Are any sauces or stocks made with soy sauce, flour, or malt? Is anything fried in a shared fryer? Will garnishes like crumbs, crackers, or tuiles be swapped?
Confirm at the table. When each course arrives, it’s fine to ask, “Is this one the gluten-free version?” At this level, servers expect it.
Use the MICHELIN Guide’s own filter. On the MICHELIN Guide website, you can filter restaurants by “Gluten-free options” under special diets. It’s a good starting point in any city, but it only tells you options exist. It doesn’t tell you how well the kitchen handles celiac disease.
