Gluten Free Restaurants in Bangkok: 2026 Celiac Travel Guide

Thai food has a reputation as one of the easier cuisines for celiacs, and it’s partly true. Jasmine rice, rice noodles, fresh herbs, grilled meat, and fish sauce are the backbone of most dishes, and none of them contain gluten. The catch is in the sauces. Soy sauce, oyster sauce, and the seasoning sauces Thai cooks reach for constantly usually contain wheat. They show up in stir-fries, marinades, and even some versions of pad thai.

So Bangkok is very doable, but not on autopilot. Here’s where to eat with confidence and what to ask everywhere else.

Practical Tips for Eating Gluten Free in Bangkok

Know the sauces. Fish sauce is generally gluten free. Soy sauce, oyster sauce, and bottled seasoning sauces usually contain wheat. Most gluten exposure in Thailand comes from these, not from noodles or bread.

Carry a Thai-language gluten-free card. Street vendors and small restaurants often don’t speak English, and “gluten” isn’t a familiar word. A printed card in Thai that names the specific sauces to avoid works much better than trying to explain.

Street food is the hardest part. Woks are shared and sauces get splashed around, so street stalls carry more risk than sit-down restaurants. If you try street food, stick to simple grilled meat, sticky rice, and fresh fruit.

Check packaged food. 7-Eleven is on every corner in Bangkok, and it’s handy for snacks, but Thai labels can be hard to read. GF Scanner helps you check a package before you buy it.
